Country Fresh

Every third Saturday I host a "Women's Gathering". We have Christian Women from all walks of faith join us for a savory breakfast with special tea's and coffee. We have the most wonderful time. Most of the time we have it in a special little room I decorated up in our church or in our dining room at The Cozy Parsonage. The last few months I have so wanted to have it outside but everytime I tried it would be pouring outside-I mean really pouring. I was soooo excited to finally have our special gathering outside this month.
The decor is a Country Fresh look and our topic was Philippians 4:8
"Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these thing."

We talked how our thought process can determine who we are. If we think angry or bitter thoughts then we will be bitter and angry. We can create a pattern of stress and frustration in our lives when we continually mutter to ourselves "I do not like that person", "Why am I the only one who cleans up around here", "This house is lousy."

Lets nip these little messages in the bud and pursue thoughts that are:

honorable
right
pure
lovely
of good repute
excellent and worthy of praise

Easy to say, hard to follow but to feel totally relaxed it's something we need to do. Now every third Friday my husbands parents take Abigail so we can have a special date night and both prepare for our breakfast's the next morning (my husband does a men's prayer breakfast as well). We look forward to this time. An extra bonus was I was able to yard sales with a dear friend as well on Friday and her daughter's looked after Abigail. I got so many treasures during this little scavenger hunt with my friend. That night Ray and I were driving around and we came across a beautiful house all decorated up w/ cute little finds with a sign out front saying "Yard Sale: Saturday Only-8am-2 pm" let me tell YOU it was very hard to stay in the truck and not jump out to take a peak under the tarps in the yard!!! But I minded my manners and rushed home to prepare for the Gathering in the morning in hopes I could make a dash for this little yard sale at 8 am and still be back at 9:15 am to start the Gathering. Well let me tell you -God has other plans......7 am the phone rings for the pastor and he is running out the door...and I go along my merry way. There is a nagging thought in my mind though and I keep thinking "I need to be here for the women, I am called to be here serving them not to yard sale", "if I took my time here I could enjoy my new treasures in the garden I got yesterday at sales and relax as well". So I settled my mind by postponing my little yard sale adventure until after the Gathering. Well 1/2 hour before that Gathering things starting falling apart, from scones needing to be made, to having to run and pick Abigail up, to people being called into work, or to the hospital, there was the shrieking sound of the drilling of holes in the church for a new alarm system, to the law office next door doing repairs with a circular saw. In my mind I kept a positive attitude and shrugged off the little things. AND when it came down to 9:15 am all was calm and we were ready to eat and enjoy ourselves. I really love this group of women. SO with that I leave you with pics of the flower beds all in bloom and hoping you have a peaceful couple of days while I go paint some doors and railings. Oh-we left as a group to go treasure hunting at the yard sale and all came away with little treasures! God is good!

I so agree that we become our thoughts! The older I get the better I am at steering myself away from the negative ones and lo and behold, I feel more positive and have a much better outlook.

What a lovely breakfast setting - I bet the other women loved it!!

So nice to see your yard in bloom. It is so peaceful!

hugs, Linda

Happy Sunday afternoon, Tress! Oh, what a lovely time you must have at your little gatherings. I would love to sit in on one of these. That's a wonderful scripture and what you've said is to very true. We do need to keep all our thought captive to Jesus. It's not always easy. I tend to be judgmental and I hate that. I ask forgiveness almost daily! :(
Anyway, you're a doll and your heart shines through your posts. Glad you got to go to the yard sale after all!
Take care and be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

I love that verse as it tells us what we should be thinking on, and we can follow those guidelines.

The things we think about really do determine how we act and how we respond. We need to make the connection and stop feeding negative thoughts and take those thoughts captive (love II Cor. 10:5 too).

What a lovely time you must have had and I'm glad you made it to the garage sale.

As a pastor's wife I do understand how sometimes hubby has to go flying out the door and sometimes you do!

if we are what we eat...we become what we think! I agree...positive thinking is what is best for our spirits...negative thoughts can consume us!
I love the table settings...you did a wonderful job making your home an inviting place to be!
oh..AND...I am fluffing your pillow for your visit!!! lol

For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and loveable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue an excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise think on and weigh and take account of these things.
